THE BEST OF 2012: ARCHITECTURE THE NEW YORK TIMES

No new work of architecture drew more praise than the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, designed by Louis Kahn just before he died in 1974…Michael Kimmelman of The New York Times called it “a belated and monumental triumph for New York, and for everyone who cares about architecture and public space.”

Roosevelt Island, New York:  Louis I. Kahn’s architectural vision for a memorial to Franklin D. Roosevelt located at the southern tip of the island.

The memorial consists of 7,700 tons of quarried granite from North Carolina.
