for Outstanding Preservation

The New York Landmarks Conservancy honored Grace Church-Brooklyn Heights with its version of the Academy Awards for multi-million dollar capital campaigns and restoration. The church building dates to 1849. The building’s restoration included the restoration of a watertight copper roof, new sound system, electrical rewiring and, of course, the crowning glory -the discovery and revelation of an ornately decorative ceiling.

Grace Church, Brooklyn Heights
This church has undergone a stunning transformation. Inside, a vibrant and historic decorative scheme of blue, gold and red, with a magnificent starburst pattern across the ceiling has been revealed from under-layers of brown paint. Outside, the Gothic Revival brownstone structure is now capped with an attractive and watertight copper roof that will protect the spectacular interior.
